Charles Russell PrintsCharles Russell was born on March 19, 1864 in St. Louis Missouri. When he was 16 he traveled to Montana where he spent some time living with Jake Hoover, a mountain man who had taken Charlie under his wing. He started working as a wrangler on a cattle drive in 1882 and he wrangled for eleven years. Russell was a self taught artist but he was unsure of his ability to make a living through this craft. He married Nancy Cooper in September of 1896 and she saw his great potential as an artist and was the driving force behind him. Charles M. Russell died in Great Falls, Montana on October 24, 1926. |
